I have been using ephedra products for years without ever experiencing a problem. Unlike most people that use it for weight loss I use it mainly for the energy aspect. I work 3rd shift - often times long overtime - and still have daily things I need to accomplish. Many times I find that during long drives I'm just entirely exhausted and I take just one pill, 2 in a day in very rare cases, when the "daily limit" printed on the bottle is 3 that I never need to even use. I feel that these products have likely prevented many a possible accident due to falling asleep while driving while causing no adverse affects in me nor the people around me. At the same time I have been a pack and a half a day smoker since I turned 16 which I know is killing me (god do I feel the coughing effects in the mornings these days...) as well as giving second hand smoke to everyone I know. So the way I see it, if they banned cigarettes I would actually be alright with that as it would give me a way to finally quit (I have failed several times and still smoke as I write this). Yet ephedra products are what's being banned and they've brought me nothing but help. With the imposing ban in about 2 weeks now I've been stocking up all I can on my usual ephedra brand pills. These products seem to be the only products that work for me and I'm sure the same is true for many other responsible users. In our caffeine driven world I've found that I am now totally immune to the effects of caffeine so products like "no-doze" may as well be called "no-effect". With the positive effects on energy and weight loss in probably millions of Americans I think this FDA ban is entirely ridiculous and agree with what many have said - that this ban is the product of government greed so people have to look to expensive prescriptions to get what they need though this will actually make for less American income as people look to import ephedra from countries where it remains legal. This is something that's not any kind of news if you look to the past. One being from the early 1900's - Absinthe was banned because it was potentially harmful, today there is a great rise in interest in it and it is easily imported from overseas where it was not banned. Then there was Prohibition - a laughable idea at best. Where there's a will there's a way and banning things proves nothing but that we must find different ways to get what we want. at the same time the government loses the money it intended to gain by us sending our money to other countries and not paying sales taxes on purchases. Its sad that the "free country of the world" has more restrictions than other countries - Canada has more benefits and more products available that the USA does anymore! free health coverage, many products which are outlawed in the US available at any given store, and even US prescriptions sold as OTC medicine... how's that for freedom? our free choices are slipping away every day, this is just yet another step in the process. Along with all of the documents the government is changing to fit their needs they should amend the saying "America home of the Free" to include the fine print and say "AMERICA, HOME OF THE blind fools that are being stripped of their FREEdom".

On a final note, I'll be quite interested to see the outcome of NVE Pharmaceuticals lawsuit against the government that's just been announced.

I wanted to let you all know about a great book titled Ephedra Fact & Fiction by Mike Fillon. While the title might lead you to believe that this book revolves around ephedra, that is just a small part. The writer does a great job in explaining the history of ephedra and how it has been safely used for more than 3000 years and how it came to be used as a weight loss supplement. After the first 100 or so pages, the book becomes a journey on how this whole thing got started and why pharmaceutical companies are using the millions of dollars to push their agenda through congress. You will become enraged when you learn how much of our tax dollars goes to supporting pharmaceutical companies and why they want natural supplements to be regulated. If this book doesn't cause you to write your representative and tell them to stop the attack on your right to take dietary supplements I do not know what will. Remember, since the announcement that the FDA ws going to ban ephedra they have already started to talk about targeting other supplements like bitter orange. Ephedra is only the beginning, and if we do not stand up and fight we will lose our right to choose. I found the book on amazon.com.

I have been taking ephedra for about a year because it helps to control my ADD symptoms. I have been using it because it is less expensive than Ritalin and does not require a doctor's prescription. It doesn't have the same mental focusing power as ritalin but it does have a calming effect and helps to control ADD related anxiety and depression and in very small doses helps me to sleep. All the places where i normally buy it have taken it off the shelves. I'm looking for a substitute but all I'm finding is loads of caffeine and other weight loss products which I don't care about. I want the stimulant effect that I get from ephedra not some stimulant free substitute. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.
